Down in the Alpa mall beneath Sunshine City, mipig cafe Ikebukuro has built its herd a room out of pixels: a blocky green tree, 8-bit signage and white cube seats, with very real micro pigs pottering about between them. Settle in with a drink and mipig's own donut and give it a minute or two — one of them will decide your lap is the best bed in the building and curl up there for a nap. It is an easy, very happy hour to fold into a Sunshine City afternoon.

You get an hour in the pigs' room with free-flow drinks, mipig's own donut and a postcard to take away at the end. The micro pigs wander wherever they like, and when one takes to you — they usually do — it climbs up, curls into a ball on your lap and dozes off, which is when the best photos happen.

A few, all for the pigs' sake: guests can visit from their third day in Japan onwards, and not within two days of leaving a country where African swine fever is present or of handling pigs anywhere else. Anyone feeling unwell is asked to come another day, since pigs can catch our bugs too.
