Up on the second floor of Mozo Wonder City, mipig cafe Nagoya has painted its pig room as an old farmhouse kitchen — sandstone walls, a great stove, barrel-wood cellar doors — and scattered it with log stools for the micro pigs to potter between. Help yourself to a drink, sit down and give it a minute or two: one of them will trot over, decide your lap is the best bed in the building and fall fast asleep on it. They are happy to be held and photographed throughout, which makes for a very cheering hour on Nagoya's western edge.

You get an hour in the pigs' room with self-serve drinks and a postcard to take away at the end, while the micro pigs have the run of the place. When one takes to you — they usually do — it climbs up, curls into a ball on your lap and dozes off, which is when the best photos happen.
Yes, and they are well used to it. Sit low with a blanket over your lap and most of them will clamber up by themselves; staff stay with you throughout so the pigs keep their calm.
Inside Mozo Wonder City, on the second floor — 40 Futakata-cho in Nishi-ku, out on the western edge of Nagoya. The mall connects straight to Kamiotai Station on the Tsurumai subway line and the Meitetsu Inuyama line, and the café is open from 10.30am to 8pm.
A few, all for the pigs' sake: guests can visit from their third day in Japan onwards, and not within two days of leaving a country where African swine fever is present or of handling pigs anywhere else. Anyone feeling unwell is asked to come another day, since pigs can catch our bugs too.
