Hirakata Park — "Hira-Par" to Osaka locals — is Japan's oldest amusement park, running since 1912 on a hillside between Osaka and Kyoto. Some forty rides and attractions span gentle carousels to proper coasters, crowned by an 80-metre giant Ferris wheel overlooking the whole park. And it turns with the seasons: pools in summer, then illuminations, ice skating and snow play through winter — a full family day out whatever the month.
