Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is one of the largest aquariums in the world — home to over 30,000 creatures from 630 species, crowned by the whale sharks cruising its vast central Pacific Ocean tank. The route spirals down floor by floor past dolphins, sea lions, sea turtles, hammerhead sharks, octopus and penguins, circling that great tank the whole way down. It sits in Tempozan Harbor Village on the Osaka Bay waterfront, with the giant Tempozan Ferris wheel right next door.

The aquarium is laid out as one continuous route that spirals down around the central tank, so you see everything without backtracking. Most visitors spend around two to three hours; add more if you linger at the whale sharks or time your visit to the feeding sessions.
Take the Chuo subway line to Osakako Station — the aquarium is about a five-minute walk from exit 1, inside Tempozan Harbor Village on the Osaka Bay waterfront. The Tempozan Ferris wheel next door marks the spot from a distance.
