Mild and comparatively dry. The Inland Sea holds January near 10°C and August around 33°C, with most of the year's rain arriving in the June tsuyu — a comfortable year-round city by Japanese standards.

Rarely in the city, but the north of the prefecture is another world: the Geihoku highlands towards Shimane get real snow and run ski areas, an hour and a half from a city that may see none all winter.

Late March to May and October to November for the weather. Note that the torii view depends on the tide rather than the forecast — check the tide table alongside it, because low tide gives you a walk and high tide gives you the reflection.
