Yomiuriland spreads 43 attractions over the green hills on Tokyo's western edge, striking the classic amusement-park balance between thrill and charm. The Bandit is the headline — 1,560 metres of coaster hitting 110 km/h over the treetops — while the giant Ferris wheel takes the same landscape at a stroll, and sea lions steal the show in between. The park changes costume with the calendar: cherry blossoms wash over the rides in spring, pools open for summer, and from autumn the hills glow with one of the Tokyo area's grandest illumination displays.

Ride the Keio Sagamihara Line to Keio-Yomiuri-Land Station — about 25 minutes from Shinjuku with a change at Chofu — then take the Sky Shuttle gondola, which floats over the wooded hills straight into the park. The gondola ride's treetop views make it the recommended approach over the bus.
