The mountains do. The Iya valley and the interior are among the wettest ground in Shikoku, while the coastal plain around Tokushima City stays much drier — the two forecasts on the same day can look like different countries.

Mid-August, so hot and humid: low 30s°C with nights that stay warm, which is part of why the dancing runs into the small hours. Sudden evening downpours are common, and the dancing carries on regardless.
