Kagoshima Weather Forecast

It depends entirely on the wind. When it blows towards the city, ash falls like grey grit and locals put up umbrellas for it — the eruption forecast is broadcast alongside the weather for that reason. Summer winds usually carry it away from central Kagoshima; winter often points it straight back.

Very mild: January highs near 13°C with frost rare on the coast. The inland Kirishima highlands are cold enough for snow, and the Ibusuki sand baths are comfortable in any month.

Famously wet — the island is said to see rain thirty-five days a month, and its interior is among the wettest places in Japan. Assume rain on any given day, carry proper waterproofs, and treat a clear summit as a bonus rather than a plan.
