Because it is really three climates in one prefecture. The Hamadori coast is mild and nearly snow-free, the Nakadori corridor around Fukushima City is a hot-summer basin, and Aizu in the west is deep snow country. Check which one you are actually going to before you pack.
Reliably and heavily from December to March. Aizu sits behind the mountains on the snowy side, and Ouchi-juku's thatched roofs under a metre of snow are the winter draw — while Iwaki on the coast, two hours away, may see none at all.
Late April to early June, and October: warm days, low rainfall, and two set pieces at either end — the Miharu Takizakura cherry in mid-April and the Bandai colours in late October.
