Fukui Weather Forecast

Snowy and grey. Fukui sits on the Sea of Japan side, so December to February bring heavy wet snowfall and very few clear days, and the mountain roads towards Ono can close briefly after a big dump.

The cliffs are at their most dramatic in a winter swell, but the wind off the sea is fierce and the clifftop path is exposed and unrailed. Go on a clear cold day after the storm rather than during it.

May and October — mild, dry and clear, which suits both Eiheiji and the Echizen coast. Summer inland is hot and humid at around 32°C in August, though the coastal breeze takes the edge off.
