Hot, humid and still. The Nobi plain traps heat, so August runs 34-36°C with little wind and nights that stay above 25°C — consistently one of the hardest big-city summers in Japan.

A few times most winters. Nagoya sits where Sea of Japan snow clouds occasionally spill through the Sekigahara gap, so unlike Tokyo it does get the odd genuine snowfall — usually a morning's worth, gone by the afternoon.

Late March to May, and October to November: mild, dry and clear. Winter is cold but sunny and perfectly walkable. Summer is the season to plan around rather than through.
